Dan was backstage at Bonnaroo this week getting more great interviews, so we didn't run a new episode on broadcast. Instead, we decided to revisit this episode with Chris DeTray of Dryve Artist Management as well as Dave Barnes, an artist signed to Razor and Tie Records.
We talked about building relationships, the steps bands and musicians should take to get managers interested in them, different kinds of record deals, and more. Also...Dave gives a "timeline" and the exact process of how he went from a guy in college to playing music for a living.
For those not on the podcast...

Really enjoyed the interview! I think with the explosion of social media causing such decentralization in the industry, it only makes sense for artists to embrace the change and experiment to find the best way to market themselves and be successful. Like what was mentioned in the interview, it seems like successful artists create not only music that attracts fans, but also relationships with fans that go beyond just the music. What do you consider to be viable strategies for artists to develop relationships with their fans in the digital age?

why are artists in such a rush to be dependent on others for their career? They need to build it first, and then like the Little Red hen, they can tell the industry to make their own pie.
