Clay Myers dropped by the Music Business Radio studios today.  Clay is vice president of Still Working Music, an independent Music Publishing company that focuses on the development of songwriters, artists, and producers.

Still Working is owned by Barbara Orbison, wife and ex-manager of the late Roy Orbison.

We talked about developing new artist, keeping established artists working, and of course, we reviewed lots of demos.

Kim is president of Word and Music Copyright Administration.   Her company provides copyright-related services for music publishers and songwriters, including copyright enforcement. 

In other words, one of the things Kim does is go after people who don't pay publishing royalties...  Clients include Lee Ann Womack, Neal McCoy, the Village People, Dolly Parton, and Billy Joel.

Kim talked about the basics of music publishing, finding "hidden" income in unpaid royalties, and more. She also brought in client Lee Roy Parnell to talk about his new album on Universal South and give advice to upcoming artists from somebody who has been there.
