Music Business Radio at Americana Music Conference

Music Business Radio will have a booth at this year's Americana Music Conference in Nashville.  Dates are Wednesday, September 20 through Friday, September 22, 2006.

If you're attending, please drop by because we'll be recording segments for future shows and we want to talk to you!  In addition, you'll be able to submit your music for an upcoming edition of "Dave's Demo Derby."

Episode #9 - Al Bunetta

Our latest show is with Al Bunetta.

Al is co-founder of Oh Boy! Records and has worked with some of the biggest names in the business including, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, and Steve Goodman.  He's also got an ear to the street when it comes to discovering new talent like the most recent Oh Boy! signing, 21-year-old guitar player Slick Ballinger.

Al got his start as road manager for the Young Rascals and eventually moved on to booking acts such as Al Green for CMA.  That's how he was first introduced to John Prine.  That relationship has lasted over 30 years.

In the Studio... Kim McCollum (and Mr. X)

Kim McCollum. president of Word and Music Copyright Administration was in the studio today.   Her company provides copyright-related services for music publishers and songwriters, including copyright enforcement. 

In other words, one of the things Kim does is go after people who don't pay publishing royalties...  Clients include Lee Ann Womack, Neal McCoy, the Village People, Dolly Parton, and Billy Joel.

Kim talked about the basics of music publishing, finding "hidden" income in unpaid royalties, and more.  She also brought in a special guest to talk about his new album on Univeral South and give advice to upcoming artists from somebody who has been there.
